Art lives in a small apartment above his store, Spirit Mountain
Artworks. The art store, which features primarily work by Alaskan
artists, is in a restored building that was once a tinsmith's shop.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and Art
has received federal grant support for its preservation. Art is
active with Chitina's Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Medical
Services. He feels strongly about giving back to the community and
this is his way. On tape Art talks about what brought him to the
Chitina area and the many issues, opportunities, and challenges that
keep him there. Historic preservation and community service are key
themes in this interview.
