Linda Curda has been involved with community health aide training in the Bethel region since 1980. She came to the area in the early 1970's as a nurse. She has been the coordinator of the Bethel Community Health Aide (CHA) training program, developed training manuals and curriculum, and helped health aides receive academic degrees. For the last two years, she has been revising the Community Health Aide Manual (CHAM), which required moving to Anchorage. The interview took place in her apartment that is also the headquarters for the manual project. Linda talks about the CHAP training program, the development of the new manual, the content of the new manual, ways to improve CHA training and practice, professionalizing the CHA job, issues of attrition and use of telemedicine, and her motivation for wanting to see good health care in rural Alaska.
