Martina Redfox Lauterbach is originally from the village of Emmonak, at the mouth of the Yukon River. She was community health aide there from 1969 to 1972. She went on to nursing school and has worked in the nursing and health education fields ever since. She currently is working on a nutrition project at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in Anchorage. In this interview, Martina talks about how she became a health aide, particularly memorable cases she had, what being a health aide meant to her, and how her career has developed since.
