Rose Winkleman was born in McGrath in 1920 and served as the community's health aide from 1969 to 1985. She grew up on a homestead outside of the village in a family of ten children, and was sent out to high school to the Jesse Lee Home in Seward. She suffers from osteoporosis, so moved to Anchorage around 2003 and lives in a senior citizens apartment complex owned by the Cook Inlet Regional Housing Authority. In this interview, Rose talks about getting the health aide job, the training she received, dealing with accidents and illness in the village, transportation of patients to Anchorage, communication with the doctors, the variety of work the health aide does, why she was successful and continued with the job.
